Here at Asian Student Achievement, we have a number of student interns who join our team. Each intern brings their own set of skills and enthusiasm during their internship. We love our students and wanted to take the time to showcase their hard work and what their life is like a day in their lives. The first intern we wanted to showcase is Harrison Lee! Read on to find out about Harrison.

Howdy! I’m Harrison, a technology and marketing intern for Asian Student Achievement. I’m a sophomore student at Texas A&M University majoring in Management Information Systems. On campus, I’m involved with my A Cappella group, Hardchord Dynamix, for which I’m the Marketing Director. I’m also active in the Asian Business Society, a member of the Chinese Student Association, and the Sales Club.
My day starts by hitting snooze on my 7:00 am alarm and waking up 10 minutes later. Once I’m actually awake, I’ll quickly get ready to leave for my lectures. At 7:40, I’ll begin walking to my 8:00 am Marketing lecture.
From 8:00 am to 8:50 am, I’ll have my Marketing lecture. Today, we watched Shark Tank pitches and learned how they used the show as promotional material for their products. Once finished, I would normally walk over to the business library and sometimes do some work. Most of the time, I take a nap on the couches. Afterward, I would normally have my managerial accounting lecture from 10:20 to 11:10 am, but today is the business career fair, so I didn’t even have time to take a nap!

At 9:48, I met with another ASA Intern, Aarya, to attend the Business Career Fair! I was able to get involved with ASA after his recommendation and referral. Aarya sold me on ASA’s mission to move Asian Americans like myself through the workforce, towards the pipeline to leadership. As someone striving for strong career growth, ASA’s goals matched with my own, and I decided to apply!
The career fair went well! Aarya and I talked to a lot of companies and I was able to give out plenty of resumes. Aarya only brought two resumes and gave one of them to a company that felt pretty sleazy. I planned on being there until 1:00pm but some of the companies I planned on talking with didn’t end up going, so we finished by noon.
I had lunch at Panda Express 🙂 Normally, I get a plate with teriyaki chicken, orange chicken, white rice, and super greens. They were out of super greens so I got fried rice instead! Aarya got a wrap from somewhere else in the student center which he said he didn’t like. Honestly I’m getting very tired of Panda Express too, but it was still a good lunch.

After lunch, from 12:30pm to 2:20pm, I was able to take some time to work on class assignments and some work for Asian Student Achievement! I was able to complete a marketing assignment over researching different marketing research sources, which was pretty interesting! For ASA, I was able to schedule a social media graphic to post and prepare an agenda for my later meeting with Asad! Normally, I’m in charge of posting social media graphics to our social media accounts, but with my time at ASA coming to an end soon, I’m helping some of our new interns learn the different platforms we use!

From 2:30pm to 3:00pm I had to get my 4 bi-weekly allergy shots at the student health center (ouch!) I used to take them weekly, but now I’ve built enough tolerance to only need them once every two weeks! I was too embarrassed to take a picture in the waiting rooms or during my shot so I took one while walking out!
At 3:05pm I went to Starbucks for a little afternoon pick me up. My regular order is a grande Iced Vanilla Latte. Yes, I’m aware of how basic my order is, but it’s yummy and gets me caffeinated throughout the day!
From 3:30pm to 4:30pm Asad and I had our meeting to build the Speaking Engagement page on the ASA webpage! We were able to build a good draft of the page and are now waiting for approval as the first iteration of the page.

At 5:00pm, I met back up with Aarya and my roommate, Louis, and we went to Chipotle for dinner! 10/10 experience as always, Chipotle brings me happiness like no other fast food can. BeReal also went off while we were in the car so that was fun!
From 7:45pm to 9:30pm Aarya and I had more work to do for the ASA website and our networking infrastructure class. It was a brutal work session, to be entirely honest; we had to check and make sure the speaking engagement page worked right and afterward, we had to complete our class module over cloud computing!

Once I got back to my place, I showered and began to wind down for sleep. I tend to chill out and watch YouTube or TV from 10:00 pm to midnight and sleep around midnight. With my chapter at Asian Student Achievement coming to a close, I’ll be able to take the skills I learned to a traditional workplace and have valuable knowledge my peers will envy. Soft skills like the knowledge of how to communicate with the people you work with and the knowledge of bringing agendas to any meeting are all valuable soft skills that I already see paying off during group projects. I was also able to learn about different platforms used by companies like WordPress and Hootsuite. Technical skills like web building and content creation/scheduling are all things I have learned through ASA that will add to my repertoire of knowledge.
I know I have fostered relationships at ASA that will last a lifetime and I couldn’t be more grateful for this opportunity over the past 6 months. Thank you for coming along with me for my day in the life as an ASA intern and as a student!
