We’re excited to share another month filled with meaningful connections and milestones. This month, we welcomed an Operations Manager to our growing team and were able to spend time in-person with our Board of Directors. We also had the pleasure of connecting with students eager to build their professional networks at Miami University.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to strengthen our community and foster new opportunities!

I came to Asian Student Achievement because I was yearning for a sense of community. I became more confident with my Asian identity as I got older so I wanted to be a part of an organization that helps out with the community. I resonate with the mission because I don’t want those after me to experience the obstacles I faced without guidance. Being a first Generation Filipinx-American who had to navigate a lot on my own, I believe it’s essential for Asian students to see Asian representation in leadership roles and empower them to understand agency from within. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders deserve to be in all the spaces we walk in. We shouldn’t feel pressure to follow the Model Minority. It doesn’t matter where you came from. One should always take advantage of any opportunity that comes there way. Continue to humble yourself always no matter where you end up.

Clariza Kristina jumped right in, joining us at our annual Board Retreat this month! It was a fantastic opportunity to connect in person, discuss the organization’s big-picture vision, dive into strategic planning, and strengthen our team bonds. A huge thank you to our Board Officer Michelle Ji for graciously hosting and creating a space for such meaningful connection and collaboration!

I love taking my costume inspiration from classic movies and my favorite artist. Last year I did a nurse outfit in replica of one of my favorite artist Ringo Sheena and this year I’m going to be Patrick Bateman from American Psycho. My favorite Halloween movie is Coraline.

My favorite Halloween-related movie is Twitches. I used to watch it a lot as a child and even though the CGI looks terrible as an adult, it still brings out the Halloween spirit!

Speaking Engagement Recap
|
|
 |
Earlier this month, ASA had the pleasure of connecting with students at Miami University, where our President & CEO, Shane Carlin, returned to his alma mater to share expert networking tips. The event, hosted in partnership with the Miami University Asian American Association (AAA), Alumni Association, and Office of Residence Life, was a great success!
Thank you to AAA for the warm invitation! We truly enjoyed engaging with students eager to enhance their professional journeys. We’re excited to continue building on this connection and look forward to more collaborations in the future.

As a millennial Asian leader, I understand the importance of breaking the generational wounds that were created by the cultural burdens of people pleasing, staying quiet, and burnout from lack of self care. Asian Student Achievement does a wonderful job in providing the soft skills that future leaders need to climb up the corporate ladder or start their own business, FEARLESSLY! I hope to continue supporting this mission to help others find their dream careers.
